Who We Are

Cathy Haynes

Cathy has been an avid gardener for many years. She has always loved working in her gardens, and with plants of all kinds. In the summer of 2008, Cathy looked to her Yankee-ingenuity and decided she’d rather work for herself. Rent-A-Gardener (aka: R-A-G Thyme Gardening) was born!

By 2009, Cathy hired additional gardeners to keep up with the growth and they have been growing every year since. Currently, R-A-G Thyme serves over 400 customers in more than 15 communities in Southern New Hampshire. In addition to working in the gardens, Cathy works behind the scenes using her bookkeeping experience to run the financial end of the business.

Bill Haynes

As President and CEO of R-A-G Thyme Gardening, Bill Haynes brings with him a vast amount of gardening knowledge. After serving his country for four years in the U.S. Coast Guard, Bill spent many years building an impressive body of gardening knowledge including: how to identify and treat insects and diseases found in lawns, trees, shrubs, and many flowering plants; fertilizers, insecticides/fungicides, knowledge of native trees and shrubs and their care, and even “indoor gardening”.

Bill is passionate about ensuring that R-A-G Thyme delivers services that are anything but typical. R-A-G Thyme offers what the general landscaping community does NOT – detail work in perennial and annual flower beds and extra attention to shrubs and trees. Bill is driven by the desire to help homeowners beautify their properties, to share his love of gardening, and do it all with the owner’s best interests at heart.

Lauren Tedford - Admin Assistant

Lauren joined R-A-G Thyme in 2012 as one of the crew working "in the field" a couple of days a week while she grew her private practice as a licensed massage therapist. After the birth of her first son in 2014, she moved from the field to behind the scenes. She has been helping to handle follow-ups, invoicing, payroll, the website, and other administration tasks from home whenever she can get a bit of time. It is pretty normal for her to be sending out invoices or responding to emails around the mid-night hour!

Lauren closed her massage practice in 2016 after her eldest was diagnosed with a rare genetic disease. He passed away in April 2021, but she still has her heart and hands full with two younger boys, a large flock of chickens, ducks, a couple of dogs, and an ever expanding raised bed garden. She helps her hubby with his bee hives occasionally and she enjoys any chance to be outdoors, as well as canning/preserving food, DIY, reading, and crafting.
